Why Are Surveys Necessary?

ALPAWatch is a grassroots organization for the all NWA Pilots. One of its functions is to seek out the opinions and ideas of the pilot group. This page gives you access to the past, present and future polls, surveys and petitions that ALPAWatch is hosting. Polls and surveys are used to find out where the pilot group stands on a topic. Petitions are used to encourage action.

Topics for surveys and polls are still being collected. Expect the list to grow. This is one of the most important tools for ALPAWatch because this is an organization built by and responsive to every NWA pilot.

If you have a topic, please submit it. The Topics that will be given the highest priority will be those that have the greatest relevance to the ALPAWatch Mission Statement.

Update (4/29/08) Although this survey has closed and the information gathered from it is extremely necessary, current conditions (proposed Delta Merger) will delay the completion of this project.

What is the purpose of this Survey? ...ALPAWatch began as an effort to help secure the best Union Leadership possible at NWA ALPA.  To achieve that objective, ALPAWatch developed an Ethics Pledge (known as The Pledge) and presented it to all the Candidates running the October 2006 LEC Elections.  For more on what happened with those elections and The Pledge, click Here.

ALPAWatch is now in the process of refining that Pledge so that it can be incorporated into all of NWA ALPA Leadership Positions.  You, the Membership of this Union, get to decide what will be contained in that Ethics Pledge.  This is your big chance to make a difference in the way our union leaders conduct themselves.

What is the purpose of this Survey?...Solidarity is the bedrock of a union's power. This survey looks into the topic of pilot unity or the lack of unity at NWA. It seems to be a commonly held belief among the pilot group that we are divided. The MEC sent out a letter on the subject, dated January 5, 2007 that would seem to agree with that belief. This survey is a first step to improve our Solidarity.

This survey is designed not only to statistically prove or disprove the commonly held belief that NWA pilots are divided along many lines, but to help identify those lines. The results of this survey will be published. If it reveals strong division along identifiable lines, then ALPAWatch will work to develop possible actions and ideas that would help bring the pilot group back together.

That fact makes this issue one of the most important and the first problem that must be solved before meaningful improvements can be expected or, in a worst case situation, before we encounter further assaults on our careers.

Results will be posted after the survey closes. Results will include both raw data (how many and what percentage of respondents answered a question a certain way), plus cross tabulation data. Cross Tabulation shows how groups of respondents answered a question. Whatever the results show, a report will be generated including survey results and suggestions for improvements where necessary. That report will be presented to the MEC. The report and the MEC's response will be published here.

If you are an email Subscriber, you will receive and email alert when results are published and when other surveys open.

Future Poll, Survey, and Petition Topics (in the works)

Should the pilots see and be able to comment on Side Letters of Agreement to our CBA before they are signed?

How important is it for…
The Membership,
The Leadership,
The Company…
To follow the contract?

When an issue is being grieved or is considered for a grievance, How important is it for…
The Membership,
The Leadership,
The Company…
To avoid continuing that grieved activity (if possible) while the grievance process is taking place?
